The Confirmation date for our Primary 7 pupils has been provisionally set for 5th March 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in Star of The Sea, Faughanvale.

Journey to Santa is an annual stamp sheet challenge that we run in the run up to Christmas.  This is a whole school and an individual challenge designed to encourage active travel when the weather turns a little bit grey and cold in the early winter months.

Each pupil has a stamp sheet with Santa on his journey to the North Pole.  They get their sheet stamped each morning when they walk, cycle, scoot to school, plus this year to encourage all our pupils they are getting stamped for being active throughout each day.

When they filled their stamp sheet it goes into a draw in the school for a class prize and an individual prize.

We have to reach our target of 2500 miles before the 10th of December.  At the minute we are well on our way!  Children check out the journey indicator in the KS1 shared area!

COVID in School – If your child displays symptoms of COVID, keep them at home and book a PCR test.  If your child is tested for COVID, please forward a copy of the result of the PCR test to the school office.  If a positive result is returned, please contact the school office for further guidance.  If a child tests positive in any class, an alert letter will be sent out to the parents/guardians of pupils in that class.  The guidance has changed; you do not keep your child off school.  Please read the latest guidance below.

Young people (aged five to 17)

Young people (aged five to 17) who are not fully vaccinated and are identified as a close contact should self-isolate and book a PCR test as soon as possible.

If the PCR test is negative, they can end their self-isolation and should arrange to take another PCR test eight days after the last known contact.

If the young person who is a close contact develops symptoms at any time they should immediately self-isolate and book a PCR test, even if the earlier PCR tests were negative.

If any of the PCR tests are positive, this means they have the infection and they should self-isolate for 10 days, in line with advice for confirmed cases.

Cross-Country – Congratulations to both the Boys and Girls Teams who participated in the Cross County North West heats at Thornhill on Friday past. The Boys team came in second and the Girls team joint third.

Saint Vincent de Paul – Tickets for the £1000 draw will be ready next week.  In line with every school in the parish and the two Gaelic Football Clubs, we will be sending one book to every family to sell.  (£3 a ticket or 4 for £10!!!)  You are under no obligation to sell these tickets.  If you would rather not sell tickets, please return the book to the school office.  Parents may request more than one book, please contact the school office to order more.  We will not be doing the annual SVDP food collection this year, nor will there be a parish bazaar, therefore we will not be selling lines for the £1000 draw.

Santa Drive Thru! – We have Santa booked to appear at the school for our Santa Drive Thru!  This will take place on Saturday 11th December.  Times are to be confirmed next week from North Poles Head Office.  This is a great opportunity to hand in those letters in person to Santa and his elves.

Primary 1 & 2 Pupils – Please ensure that your child has a change of clothes in school for slips, trips and little accidents!  This should be left at school with the bag clearly labelled.

Journey to Santa! – Children are being encouraged to participate in the Socially Distanced Journey to Santa Challenge.  The challenge begins on the Monday 29th November and finishes on Friday 10th December.  Journey 20 miles to be in with a chance of winning a prize from Santa’s workshop.

Journey to Santa

The Journey to Santa Challenge has had a small revamp for 2021,

to give all pupils the opportunity to participate.  The goal is to travel the distance from your school to the North Pole, which is 2500 miles!

It will run from Monday 29th November to Friday 10th December.

Each pupil can travel a maximum of 3 miles per day towards the North Pole Walk, cycle or scoot to or from school = 1 mile

At least 15 minutes of exercise outside school = 1 mile

At least 15 minutes of exercise within school (e.g. Daily Mile) = 1 mile

Could one year group or key stage or whole school achieve 2500 miles?

The pupils will use their individual stamp sheets to keep a record of their activity.

Teachers use classroom recording tables to keep track of the numbers.  If a family has to start their journey by car, why not park up 15 minutes from school and do a park‘n’stride. – This would be close to the play park in Eglinton.

Let’s hope Santa’s little elves are watching us and helping us to complete our journey!

Google Classroom – Teachers will be using Google Classroom to inform parents regarding work in the classroom.  Please activate notifications which will alert you if there is teacher activity.  Staff are putting together an information video to help you navigate your way around the Google Classroom.  It is important that you only access the classroom through your child’s C2k login details.

Ladies Netball – Ladies Netball is on tonight at Broadbridge Primary School in the Master’s Hall at

8:00 p.m.  All ladies 18+ are welcome to join.  Cost £3.
