Wishing all our pupils, parents, staff and wider school community a very happy Easter, on this most special day in our school’s calendar.

May you be all be blessed with happiness and joy this Easter Sunday.

You may have seen coverage of the forthcoming unions’ strike action in the news, we want to inform you about the impact this is likely to have at our school.

When a strike takes place, those taking strike action stop work and withdraw their labour. Members involved in the action will, therefore, not undertake any duties on the strike day. A risk assessment to determine whether it is possible to operate the school safely during the strike has been conducted which considers the impact that the action will have on the health and safety of pupils, staff and visitors, and whether the school can run a full or amended curriculum.

The school will close for pupils tommorow, 29th November, from 8:00 – 11:45 a.m. Children may enter the Master’s Hall from 11:45 a.m. onwards.

The school day will begin at 12:00 Noon. Clearly this is a difficult situation, which will cause some disruption. I would ask you, however, to be understanding.

A strike by unions is very unusual. Taking strike action is not something that any member would undertake lightly. Those on strike will have thought long and hard about their decision and will also lose pay for the period that they are on strike. The school will run as normal from Thursday 30th November.

Please note all canteen users must be booked in early, preferably before the end of today, Tuesday 28th, as only the children who have booked a dinner will be able to avail of one on the Wednesday.

We thank you for your understanding and cooperation at this time.

Congratulations to the Netball team who have won the Nort-West League. The girls now progress to the Northern Ireland Netball Finals in Lisburn on 3rd June. Many thanks to all the netball coaches Mrs K Gillespie, Mrs T Gillespie and Mrs M Hull for all the coaching throughout the year. Go Broadbridge!!!

Sun cream – Please make sure that sun cream is applied before coming to school especially on days they are outside for sports.

Parking across the Blue Bridge! – Firstly may we thank all who have parked across the Blue Bridge over the past few months. It has greatly reduced the traffic congestion outside the school at home times and in the morning. However, in solving one problem we have created another across the way, one that we hope that we can rectify to keep all parties happy and continue to ease the traffic congestion outside the school!

Please try and follow the guidance below to ensure that everyone is safe and we do not cause disruption to people’s daily lives:

  • Leave the parking closest to the bridge for the elderly.
  • Do not block in any way the entrance/exit to the car wash or the residents’ homes.
  • Park on the school side of the Clooney Road to avoid crossing the road with your child and maintaining privacy of the residents in their homes.
  • Park on the layby up past the car wash, this will cause the least disruption to the residents in their homes and the business premises.

Thank you for your understanding with this matter.

NSPCC – Speak out, Stay safe. All classes will be accessing online lessons next week as part of the NSPCC programme.

Parents’ Classes – Week 5 of Parents’ classes for the parents of Primary 6 pupils preparing for the transfer test continue tonight at 8:00 p.m.  Parents who have registered have been emailed information on how to access the class.  Never too late to join in!

Free School Meals/School Uniform/Physical Education Clothing Allowance 2021-22 –  Guidance and links to apply have been posted on the school’s Facebook page.

Snapchat – We have had a few incidents of pupils joining snapchat groups at home, which has created distress for pupils that then spills into school. This is an unnecessary burden on the class teachers and our pupils, one that is easily avoided by simply not allowing your child onto such forums. The official guidance is clear; no child should have an account until they are at least 13 years of age! For the safety of your child and their classmates we would ask that all parents follow this guidance.

Speeding on the Coolafinney Road – Please keep your speed to a minimum on the Coolafinney Road, 30 mph is the maximum speed limit. We have an ever increasing number of children walking and cycling to school and wish them to remain safe as they do so. Please pay particular attention to the crossing point on the bend!

PC Fitness Training – Pascal Cooke Fitness training at the school Monday, Wednesday, Friday 6:15 a.m. or 6:00 p.m. for further information contact Pascal 07778514063.
