Parent/Teacher Meeting P1-P7  The Parent/Teacher meetings will take place the week beginning Monday 23rd November.  Your child’s teacher will give you a time that the call will be made on the Monday/Tuesday.  If that does not suit they will call you at a later time on the Wednesday evening. This year the meeting will take place by phone.  The phone number will be withheld. Parents are allocated ten minutes to talk about their child, please be aware of others waiting to talk to the class teacher.  A face to face meeting will only be available to parents that are required to sign educational documents. It is important that you talk to the class teacher this term.

Roots of Empathy – We have our baby quota for this year.  Thanks to the families who volunteered for this year’s programme.  It is now safe to push your pram past Mrs Gillespie once again!

Road of Hope – Thanks for all the donations towards the “Road of Hope” appeal. The money collected will be counted tomorrow and forwarded to the charity.

The school Note – Paper format has been sent out to those parents that have requested a paper format. If you have not returned your preferred method please forward to the school.  The note continues to be available on the school website and is also being emailed to parents. As a last resort for those that are still not receiving it, we have started training pigeons, please do not shoo them away!

Watches with Cameras! – Please do not send your child to school with any devices that have the capacity to photograph or video, they are strictly forbidden.

Physical Education reminder – A full Physical Education Programme has commenced.  Please send in plimsolls/trainers that can remain in school for Physical Education.  Plimsolls are the preferred footwear for years P1-P4.

Anti-Bullying week – This will run from 16th-20th November.  The theme this year is “United Against Bullying”.  Pupils will be doing various activities during the week in class on the topic.  To start off the week’s activities, Monday 16th November is OdD SoCk DaY!  Pupils are asked to wear to school odd socks or different tights from the norm to celebrate uniqueness!

Saint Vincent de Paul – The school will not be doing the annual collection of food for SVDP this year due to the risks that it would pose in transferring foodstuff from one household to another.  The Parish has also cancelled the annual Bazaar in December. Fr. Mc Dermott has said that the annual £1000 draw that normally takes place at the Bazaar will still take place.  He has asked that we all support this, all proceeds from the draw this year will go towards SVDP, helping those in need in our parish. If anyone is willing to sell a book of tickets (£3 a ticket or 4 for £10!!!) please contact the school office and we will send you out a book.  Your help is greatly appreciated.

ParentPay – You will receive an activation email for ParentPay in the coming days.  This letter will include your username and temporary password. Please login using these details and follow the system instructions to activate your account.  Please add platform@parentpay.com to your email contact list to ensure that emails from ParentPay do not go to your Junk folder.  The school will be notified once this has been completed. We need all parents/guardians to activate their account for this to be successful.

As of Monday the 9th November parents are asked to adhere to the following guidelines to ensure that our children, staff and community remain safe and the school remains open.

  • All adults entering the gates of the school premises should be wearing a mask.
  • Hands must be sanitised on arrival.
  • Please follow the walking system that has been in place since September.
  • No adults are permitted to enter any of the classrooms.
  • If you wish to speak to a teacher, please ring the school office.
  • Please do not congregate at the school gates when collecting children. Stand well back, keep a safe distance from others and wear a face mask.

“Parents/carers are at the heart of fighting the virus, and minimising any disruption to education, so your role in responsible action both at the school gates, and in ensuring that the whole family including children, abide by all the necessary health restrictions are the difference between success and failure. With your help we can all protect the future education and wellbeing of our children.”   Peter Weir

Parent/Teacher Meeting P1-P7  The Parent/Teacher meetings that were due to take place from Monday 26th October have now been rescheduled to take place the week beginning Monday 23rd November. Your child’s teacher will give you a time that the call will be made on the Monday/Tuesday. If that does not suit they will call you at a later time on the Wednesday evening. This year the meeting will take place by phone. Parents are allocated ten minutes to talk about their child, please be aware of others waiting to talk to the class teacher. A face to face meeting will only be available to parents that are required to sign educational documents. It is important that you talk to the class teacher this term.

School Library – This is a final call for any unreturned books- library books, class novels and text books! The school gave out a lot of books to children at short notice before the first lockdown. Thankfully, the vast majority have been returned. However, there are still quite a few that have not been returned. Please have a search this weekend and return any books belonging to the school. Thank you.

P1 Parents – Please check out the Literacy Video on Google Classroom if you haven’t already done so, it will give you an insight into the teaching of phonics and how your child will learn to read and write. This has been created as an alternative to the Phonics Night that we would normally do with Primary 1 parents.

Roots of Empathy – The school is looking for 3 families to participate in an adapted COVID Roots of Empathy Programme beginning in January 2021. Baby must be 5/6 months old at this stage. If you are interested, please contact Mrs Gillespie through the school office. If you do not wish to take part, please avoid Mrs Gillespie until February!!!!

Road of Hope – At this stage of the year we normally gather in items for the “Road of Hope” shoe box appeal. As this is not possible this year due to COVID restrictions the charity has asked if we could send forward the £2 transportation cost that was attached to each shoebox. They will use this to buy small presents for children and families in need. Please send any donations to the school office next week in an envelope marked “Road of Hope”. Thank you.

Physical Education – We are clearing the ‘Master’s Hall’,  therefore a full Physical Education Programme will commence on Monday. Please send in plimsolls/trainers that can remain in school for Physical Education. Plimsolls are the preferred footwear for years P1-P4

Flu Forms – Any outstanding flu forms need to be returned to the school tomorrow. Your child cannot be vaccinated if the form is not completed.

ParentPay – ParentPay will be introduced to the school over the coming weeks. This will remove the need to send any cash into school. Please read the Information Leaflet. Information on how to activate your account will be sent out early next week. CLICK HERE FOR INFORMATION LEAFLET.

The school Note – We have tried placing the school note online for the past number of weeks. Unfortunately, we are not reaching our target audience! Please tell us your preferred method of receiving the weekly note.

School Closure – Yesterday the Executive announced that schools and other education settings will have the half-term holiday break extended from 19th to 30th October. The school will remain closed for this two-week period for all pupils.

This period of closure has come at a very difficult time for our pupils. We have been working very hard at school to close the gap in their education as a result of the first lockdown. Therefore, it is important that this is not treated as a two week break for your child, as they may lose so much that they have learned since September. We would ask that the pupils complete any work that has been sent home by the class teacher. There is Numeracy and Literacy homework to be completed and teachers have asked that pupils reading novels, do so on a daily basis. This work will not cover any new topics; all topics have been covered by the class teacher. We appreciate that this may be difficult for some families as they try to work and provide childcare on a daily basis, but by having your child staying engaged with their school work the return to school on 2nd November will be much easier for all.

Please follow any guidance that has been issued by the PHA and remain safe during these difficult times.

Early Morning Club -2:00-3:00 Club –  Please make sure that all payments for September and October are paid up to date. Thank you.

Note from the Bike General! – Please check your child’s brakes on a regular basis. Of all the bikes I checked at the school at least 1 in 5 had very poor or non-existing brakes! Eglinton Medical Practice – www.eglintonmedicalpractice.co.uk We had a very successful flu vaccine clinic last weekend in Foyle College on Limavady Road. Thank you to all who attended.

We will run a final flu vaccine clinic this Sunday 11th October in Foyle College from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon. This clinic is for all pre-school children (that is children aged 2-4 years and not yet in primary school). However, everyone who is eligible for the flu vaccine and has not yet had it, is welcome to attend this clinic also.

The flu vaccine for children is given as a simple painless nasal spray into each nostril. A very small number of children may need the vaccine as injection instead.

Children are more likely to suffer from flu than adults. Giving flu vaccine to children helps stop them catching and spreading the infection, so it protects them and also the people around them.

COVID-19 – Dear Parents and Carers, due to a rise in positive cases of Covid-19 across Northern Ireland we would ask for the following information if a parent takes their child to be tested for Covid-19. Please take the following steps:

  • Inform the school straight away that you are taking your child to be tested, even if you are doing this just for peace of mind or as a precaution.
  • Inform the school if you or a member of your extended family is taking the Covid-19 test as they may have been in contact with your child.
  • Please forward the result (negative or positive) sending to info@broadbridgeprimaryschool.com, this is totally confidential and only visible to office staff.
  • If your child tests NEGATIVE, they may return to school providing they have not had a fever for 48 hours and have not been advised to self-isolate by the PHA.
  • If your child tests POSITIVE, DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL. Inform the school immediately. Self-isolate for at least 10 days as advised by the PHA.

Many parents are worried about what happens if a child in their child’s class tests positive: to date this has not happened. Rest assured that if it does you will be informed BY THE SCHOOL IMMEDIATIATELY. The school will then follow guidelines from PHA. Thank you once again for your co-operation with this matter.
