We’re taking part in NSPCC Number Day!

Dear Parent/Guardian,

We are delighted to be supporting the NSPCC by taking part in Number Day on Friday 7th May 2021.

Everything the NSPCC does protects children today and prevents abuse tomorrow.

The NSPCC needs our support more than ever.  By raising money, we can help to fund their vital services such as Childline – the helpline that’s always there for children and young people whatever their problem or concern.

On average, a child contacts Childline every 25 seconds.

Making maths meaningful

Number Day is a great way to make maths fun and bring about a positive, ‘can-do’ attitude towards it.

  • We are having a fun day of maths activities and we will be taking part in Dress up for Digits. Pupils are asked to wear a top with a number on it (football shirt, cap, netball shirt!).  To help raise money for the NSPCC, we are asking for a suggested donation of £1, and we’d love everyone in the school to take part in this special event.

Safe Fundraising

Please send in a donation to support NSPCC’s work in a sealed envelope.

It all adds up

We’re really looking forward to all the fun of Number Day, and we really appreciate your support. All the money we raise at Broadbridge PS will make an enormous difference to children today and help NSPCC prevent abuse be there for children and keep all children safe.

Thank you.

Best wishes,

Mr D McLaughlin

Broadbridge PS

ParentPay – We would like to remind parents that all school meals, morning club, 2-3pm club and extra-curricular activities must be booked and paid for via ParentPay.  Bookings must be made by 8.45am on the day you would like to use the service (with the exception of morning club which must be booked the day before).  If you are having any difficulties using the system or you still need to register, please contact the school office and we will help you in any way we can.

Monday 3rd May – The school is open on Monday 3rd May as normal.  We had initially planned to have our Sports Day on this day, however this will not happen as planned.  Sports will take place at a later date.  As it is a Bank Holiday there will be no canteen.  Therefore, every child must bring a packed lunch to school on Monday.  Those children that are entitled to Free School Meals have been given a separate form.  The school will provide them with a packed lunch if they so wish.

Big Pedal – What a truly fantastic turn out for the Big Pedal this year.  As the good weather continues we would encourage the children to continue to travel to school by any other means other than car!  The impact on the traffic at the school gates is clearly visible for all to see.  May Challenge – We would encourage older children in particular at the school to continue on their walking, cycling and scooting journey to school.  Some parents have arranged for safe pick up/drop off points in the village, this helps alleviate the traffic at the school gate, encourages the children to be independent and maintain a level of fitness for the pupils.  We hope that this is continued in the months ahead.

Swimming Money refund – The current primary 5 pupils received the swimming fund refunds yesterday.  Today refunds will be issued to children in primary 6 (Mrs Bradley Class) and tomorrow children will be issued refunds in primary 6 (Mr Logue’s class) and primary 7. There are some families that owe the school money for the lessons, this information and payment details will be on the letters issued to children.  A text will be sent to your primary telephone number informing you that the money has been returned, please check schoolbags.

Earth Day – Please try and maintain Plastic Free Friday in the months ahead.

Child Health Forms P1 & P2 – These are being collected tomorrow, please ensure that they have been returned.

What is the challenge?

Sustrans Big Pedal will run for 10 days from 19 – 30 April

Sustrans Big Pedal inspires pupils, staff and parents to be amazing and take active journeys to school.

On each day of the challenge, schools compete to see who can get the highest percentage of their pupils, staff and parents cycling, walking, wheeling or scooting to school.  All participants (adults and children) will be logged for our school data daily.

Our school’s best five days will determine our final position, but we will be logging journeys on all ten days.

How many active journeys will your pupils and their parents and guardians make?

There will be a school prize for the most active class over the two weeks.          (% participation of children will be used)

Get your Hi-Vis vests out, helmets adjusted, bikes checked and scooters oiled this weekend!!!

Please remember to be mindful of the current COVID restrictions!  This virus is still about so when you walk, cycle etc.. be mindful of others.  Stay single file when passing people on shared paths.  We realise this may be difficult but try to keep 2m distance between groups.

RESPECT EACH OTHER’S JOURNEY

Please visit the Sustrans website and look for “The Big Pedal” for ideas on how to prepare for the challenge.

Diary:  Easter Holidays – School will close at 12 noon on Wednesday 31st March.  The school will be closed from    1st April to 9th April. Both days inclusive.

  • COVID-19 Update Parents are reminded that the school must be contacted if there is a positive case in your household. Please ring 7181 0520 or email info@broadbridgeprimaryschool.com stating your child/ren’s class and a brief outline of the case.
  • Adults are reminded that they must maintain a social distance at the gates of the school. We would encourage the use of masks at these points due to the large gatherings at any one time!

Easter Holidays – Classes will be dismissed at 12:00 noon on Wednesday 31st March, school will reopen on Monday 12th April. Some parents may wish to park cars over the other side of the bridge.  Be careful where you park and do not block access to nearby houses.

Spring Stroll – Parents are encouraged to walk/cycle to school on Wednesday of next week. Wear a ‘spring bonnet’ and receive free tickets for the Easter raffle.

Mr Logue’s Draw – Mr Logue’s Easter Draw for charity will take place on Wednesday 31st March.  Tickets 25p each or 5 for £1. This year’s benefactor will be Trócaire via the parish collection.

No-Uniform Day – Wednesday 31st March will be a no uniform day at the school. Pupils are asked to contribute £1 towards Trócaire for this. In return they will receive 5 tickets towards Mr. Logue’s Easter raffle.

Returning Books – We still have a lot of unreturned books that went out on loan during lockdown. Please return all books before Tuesday of next week.

School Library Books – All school library books must be returned to school before Tuesday of next week.

Yellow Jackets – All yellow jackets that have been given out to pupils from the school, should be kept in the child’s school bag or at school if they do not walk on a daily basis. The jackets are frequently used when the need arises to leave the school premises on trips and walks.

Big Pedal – Get ready for the Big Pedal week beginning Monday 19th April – 30th April. Plenty of notice to get the flat tyres fixed, chains oiled and ready to pedal!

Grandparents’ Day –Our P2 pupils and teachers have put together a short video to share as a celebration of Grandparents’ day. Check out our Facebook page and website to hear the children sing and voicing their opinions on how absolutely wonderful our Grandparents are!

Children leaving school early – All pupils that are being taken out of school early must be signed out at the school office. A child leaving school early should only be doing so for a valid reason e.g. a medical appointment. We would ask that parents do not remove children from school as a matter of convenience for themselves.

Walk to school – We would encourage pupils that are old enough to walk to and from school to do so on a daily basis. Children should cross at William and then use the Zebra crossing at the Spar to remain safe.

Thank you – Thanks to Mrs Sinead Marlow (Speech & Language Therapist) for providing us with information for this month’s SEN newsletter looking at Developmental Language Disorder. This is available in your child’s Google Classroom today.
