Strike action by Teachers’ Unions Wednesday 29th November –You may have seen coverage of the forthcoming unions’ strike action in the news, we want to inform you about the impact this is likely to have at our school. When a strike takes place, those taking strike action stop work and withdraw their labour. Members involved in the action will, therefore, not undertake any duties on the strike day. A risk assessment to determine whether it is possible to operate the school safely during the strike has been conducted which considers the impact that the action will have on the health and safety of pupils, staff and visitors, and whether the school can run a full or amended curriculum. The school will close for pupils on Wednesday 29th November from 8:00 – 11:45 a.m. Children may enter the Master’s Hall from 11:45 a.m. onwards. The school day will begin at 12:00 Noon. Clearly this is a difficult situation, which will cause some disruption. I would ask you, however, to be understanding. A strike by unions is very unusual. Taking strike action is not something that any member would undertake lightly. Those on strike will have thought long and hard about their decision and will also lose pay for the period that they are on strike. The school will run as normal from Thursday 30th November. Please note all canteen users must be booked in early, preferably before the end of the school day on Tuesday 28th November as only the children who have booked a dinner will be able to avail of one on the Wednesday.

Signatures required – Parents please check and sign the following :

  • Homework needs to be checked and signed on a daily basis.
  • Reading records need signed once their reading has been listened to nightly.
  • Weekly tests (Spellings and/or Numeracy) need checked and signed.

Teachers have been asked to place an X requesting a signature if the child’s book is not signed. This is required to keep you as a parent informed and involved in the education of your child. Thank you.

Do This in Memory – The Primary 4 children from the parish schools will begin their sacramental preparation this weekend, through the ‘Do This in Memory’ programme. Together with their families, they will attend mass, hear special readings and with our Parish Priests, learn all about the importance of the Eucharist as part of their sacramental preparation. Children can attend either Vigil Mass 5:00 p.m. or 6:30 p.m.

‘Broadbridge does the Santa walk.’ We are proud to support the Daily Mile, which aims to improve the physical, social, emotional and mental health and wellbeing of our children.  This year the Daily Mile is holding the walk on Friday 1st December.  We are doing this during the school day so everyone can join in.  Grab your Santa hats/headbands and get in the festive spirit!

Seany Lynn SCPP – Congratulations to Seany Lynn who has won the prestigious School Crossing Patrol Person of the year in Northern Ireland,  Road Safety Award. There is no -one more deserved of an award (Although William Mc Laughlin may disagree!!!) for the great work he does every morning and afternoon, keeping all our walkers, cyclists and scooters safe on their journey to and from school.

Well done Seany!
