Half day strike action by teachers on 21 February –You may have seen coverage of the forthcoming teachers’ strike action in the news, we want to inform you about the impact this is likely to have at our school.

When a strike takes place, those taking strike action stop work and withdraw their labour. Teachers involved in the action will, therefore, not teach their class(es) or undertake any other duties before 12.00 noon on the strike day. A risk assessment has been conducted which considers the impact that the action will have on the health and safety of pupils, staff and visitors, and whether the school can run a full or amended curriculum, to determine whether it is possible to operate the school safely during the strike. The school will be closed for pupils until 12:00 noon on Tuesday 21st February. Clearly this is a difficult situation, which will cause some disruption. I would ask you, however, to be understanding. A strike by teachers is very unusual. Taking strike action is not something that any teacher would undertake lightly. Those on strike will have thought long and hard about their decision and will also lose pay for the period that they are on strike.

On that day the school will open for all pupils from 12:00 noon. If you want your child to have a school dinner this day, it must be prebooked using ParentPay before 8:45 a.m. This applies to all pupils including those in receipt of free school meals.

Sustrans – Check out the special mention the school has received in the Sustrans Quarterly Leaflet. A massive thank-you to the schools who carried out walking and cycling challenges over the festive period. A special mention to Broadbridge Primary School, Eglinton for sharing footage of their Santa Walk: https://fb.watch/hr8RTRUSBJ/ Broadbridge Primary School Eglinton Daily Mile

The recently produced road safety guides for parents (of children 0-7 years & 8-11 years) are now both available to download on NI Direct – in English and Irish at: https://www.nidirect.gov.uk/publications/parents-guide-road-safety

Broadbridge Parents & Friends Association Update- After our recent AGM we just wanted to share some things that may interest our school families. The coming months will see The Parents and Friends group concentrate on building our school community.  If you have ideas or just want to lend a helping hand please keep an eye out in the school note for the date of our next meeting.  Just come along, you won’t be signed up for life or onto a committee, it is just a chance to say that you are interested or willing to help out when you can.In the next school year we hope to help the school work towards developing the outside play areas.  Work is currently ongoing in the background with regards to getting permissions approved and we look forward to being able to help out.

Planned Giving  At the AGM there was a heartfelt THANK YOU from the School to all those that contribute.  No matter if the contribution is £1 per month or more, it all adds up and each contributor makes a difference. The funds are handed to the school each year to help where it really matters, things like Classroom assistant costs, Library expenses or the Accelerated Reading Licence.  It was also decided that we should make clear some information about the scheme:

*  The Planned Giving Scheme  for the school is a registered Charity and the accounts are reported annually to the Charities Commission by the Parents and Friends Association.

* a £1 donation turns into £1.25 if we have a gift aid form signed by each person giving.  As a charity we can claim this additional 25p from the Government to add to our funds. This is a fantastic benefit as every penny counts.

* If you haven’t signed up to the Planned Giving plan and feel like you would like to do so please email the school for a form:   info@broadbridgeprimaryschool.com No one in the Parents and Friends group sees who or how much any family contribute, the account is managed by the school Bursar.
