Children Going Home on Friday 30th June for Summer Holiday – Parents are asked to ensure that the children know how they are travelling home tomorrow, particularly if there is a change to the normal routine.  Walkers,Yellow bus children and those going across the ‘Blue Bridge’ will leave at  11:45 a.m. Children getting picked up by car will leave at 12 noon Please drive slowly and with care as you approach the school as there will be a lot of excited children about.

Cloakrooms – Children are reminded to take all belongings from the cloakrooms tomorrow before going home, coats, spare clothes and trainers need to be taken home.

 

School Books – Please return all school and library books before the end of term.  This is extremely important as they are needed for next year’s classes.

 

ParentPay – Please ensure that all payments for outstanding items on the ParentPay system are made before the end of the school year so that the year 2022-23 can be closed off. Thank you.

 

Free School Meals – The application process for Free School Meals and Uniform Grants is now open. If you follow the link, you can check eligibility for applying. Broadbridge Sports Day – Friday 9th June 2023

 

This year Sports Day will be held on the pitch opposite the school.  Sports will start at 9:30 a.m.  All parents, families and friends are welcome.  It is a school day so in the event of Sports being postponed, school will continue as normal.  Dinners will not be provided in school.  All children should bring a packed lunch. (Children will all receive a free hotdog and drink at lunchtime).

  • The early morning club and late afternoon club will run as normal on Friday. Pick up for Foundation Stage children remains at 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. for KS1 and KS2 pupils.
  • Buses to Kids Inn & Kids Cabin will run as normal.
  • Children should come suitably dressed for the sports events. Make sure, if it is sunny, that sun protection is applied.
  • We would like children to arrive at school as normal for the 9:00 a.m. start. Teachers will take the roll and organise their classes for Sports before walking to the pitch.
  • Please Note: In the interest of child safety, parents must remain outside the roped fence area at all times.  Only those adults wearing staff bibs are permitted inside the roped area.
  • Children must always stay with their class teacher.
  • There will be tea/coffee available for parents in the Master’s hall at 10:30 a.m.
  • There will be hotdogs and ice cream on sale at lunchtime for adults in attendance. Children may get ice cream once their sports are finished.  Please do not get ice cream before they are finished.
  • Cars will be permitted to park at the back of the school grounds. Please drive very slowly and follow the directions of the parking attendants.
  • Adults may wish to bring chairs as it is a long time standing!
  • Please note no dogs are allowed on the playing field.
  • To ensure the safety of all children parents must ask the teacher if they take their child/children out of Sports Day early.

Gaelic – A massive thank you to all the children who attended the Gaelic over the course of this year.  We would like to thank both Faughanvale and Slaughtmanus Gaelic Clubs for their continued support and coaching throughout the year.

 

Gaelic Team – The school Gaelic Team will be representing North Derry competing on Friday the 16th June in the Francis Lagan Finals at Owenbeg.  Games are scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.  All support is welcome, more details to follow.

 

Soccer Team – The school soccer team will be competing in the Schools’ Cup on Thursday 15th June at the Vale Centre from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

 

HSENI Farm Safety – Our thanks to Health & Safety Executive Northern Ireland for delivering a talk to all the children about ‘Farm Safety’ on Monday, such important messages for children to remember.

 

Roots of Empathy – The Roots of Empathy baby celebrations will take place on Wednesday 14th June at 9:30 a.m.  Thanks to all the families, classes and teachers involved this year.  If you are having a baby due from June- September and would like to participate in next year’s programme please contact the school office.

 

McGinnis Group – Are working with a charity called Shalom Center for Conflict Resolution & Reconciliation, Africa (Shalom) and are raffling a 2020 Ford Fiesta to raise funds.  Tickets are £20 and are available at the school office, car is on view at Mc Ginnis Group office, all proceeds will go to the charity.  Shalom focuses on the root cause of violence in the tribal lands of eastern Africa.  It was created in 2009 in the wake of persistent widespread violence and dislocation across northern Kenya, and in the aftermath of the disputed Kenyan elections.  Shalom has made a major impact on peace initiatives in this vital strategic of Africa.

 

Val at the Spar – Our thanks to Val in the Spar for sponsoring the Sports Day Event.  She really goes out of her way to support the school every year.  This year she has assisted in the preparation of the hotdogs and supplied water and fruit for all the children, free of charge.  Thanks Val!

 

Primary 1 Admissions – Last day of Primary 1 induction on Tuesday 14th June 2:15-3:00 p.m.  Please make sure all enrolment forms have been returned to the school office.

 

School Netball Team – The girls had a great day at the Northern Ireland Netball Finals.  Unfortunately, it was not to be their day, but the overall atmosphere and experience was fantastic.  Well done girls!

Congratulations- Well done to the school Gaelic team who were crowned North Derry County Champions in Owenbeg yesterday. After the group stages, they beat our neighbours Faughanvale in the Semi-Final and then Termoncanice in the Final. They now represent North Derry in the County Finals at Owenbeg on Friday 16th June. Our thanks to Miss Maguire, the school coach and the local coaches from both Gaelic Teams for their support of the school throughout the year.

 

Sports Day – Sports Day is scheduled to take place on Friday 9th June at 9:30 a.m. This day will go ahead weather permitting, parents are invited to attend but are under no obligation to do so.

 

Green Flag Status – Our school has achieved the Eco Green Flag status after our hard work in walking, cycling and scooting to school this year. Our Eco Team have ensured that recycling is a priority within our school and have introduced initiatives to reduce, reuse and recycle. Our thanks to the Eco School Class members and to Miss Madden & Miss O’Neill for all the hard work in making this possible.

Crumlin Netball – Our thanks to Crumlin Netball Club for travelling to our school on Saturday 20th May to participate in a netball blitz. Our Primary 5-7players had a great experience.

School Netball Team –The girls Northern Ireland Netball Finals will take place in Lisburn on 3rd June. The netball players and supporters have received information on travel arrangements from the school.

Choir Trip – All choir children attending the trip to the White Horse Inn tomorrow are reminded to return their permission slips.

Vale Og’s Summer Camp 2023 – Takes place Monday 7th– Friday 11th August 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. daily.  This includes: GAA Skills Competitions, Multi-sports, Irish Cultural Activities, Team Building, Special Guest Coaches, All Ireland Series, Friday Funday and much more! Plus, ALL CHILDREN will receive a Vale Og’s Summer Camp Training Top and Faughanvale Water Bottle! Only £25 per child and 10% discount applied for each additional sibling. Everyone welcome. Slaughtmanus GAC summer Camp – This year we are running our own summer camp at Slaughtmanus GAC between 10th -14th July. Club coaches and volunteers will be giving up their time to give the kids a week of fun and games.

The camp is open to current P1-7 children and will run daily from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. with a break at noon for lunch. We welcome all children both beginning and club regulars. All children registered will receive a free Slaughtmanus Kit (Jersey, Shorts & Socks!) Closing date for registration is the 31st May. Thanks to all who attended the Parents’ Information Evening in the Master’s Hall last night.

Our thanks also to Claire Heaney from The Dry Arch Centre, Dungiven for their informative talk, highlighting many unknown online dangers.

Claire provided handouts for those in attendance but a copy may be collected from Anne in the school office for those who were unable to attend.

 

Huge congratulations to the school’s Gaelic players who were crowned North Derry County Champions in Owenbeg earlier today.

After qualifying through a very difficult gropu that included the highly fancied Dungiven team, they beat our neighbours Faughanvale in the semi-final before defeating Termoncanice in the final.

They now represent North Derry in the County Finals at Owenbeg on Friday 16th June.

Our thanks to the local coaches from both parish Gaelic clubs for their support of the school throughout the year and in particular to Miss Maguire for the amazing contribution to the school’s Gaelic club.

Guess the Score – Thanks to all who participated in the ‘Guess the score’ competition in the Derry V Armagh match on Sunday 14th May. Unfortunately, no-one matched the correct score after full-time. However, all sponsor sheets went into a draw and the lucky £100 winner was Rua Lynch. The total collected for the draw was a fantastic total of £1648. This will all go towards acquiring new kits for the football, netball and cross-country teams. Thanks once again.

 

School Netball Team – Congratulations to the Netball team who have won the Nort-West League. The girls now progress to the Northern Ireland Netball Finals in Lisburn on 3rd June. Many thanks to all the netball coaches Mrs K Gillespie, Mrs T Gillespie and Mrs M Hull for all the coaching throughout the year. Go Broadbridge!!!

Choir Trip – Choir children will be notified of upcoming trips next week. Thank you to all members for their dedication to choir events during the year. Well done everyone.

Reminder School Council Survey- Our school council have been working hard this year to come up with a vision for our school.  All children and staff in the school have been involved and now the council would like to ask parents for ideas for the vision statement. Please take 5 minutes of your time to fill in the survey on your child’s google classroom to help the council with their task. Thank you.

Lost Property –All items will be available for children to take home Friday 19th May before it is given to the local charity shop. Please continue to label all items of clothing that your child wears into school.

 

Outdoor Play Development – The school is in the process of planning for the development of the outdoor play areas for pupils. Parents are invited to come along and see a short presentation tonight Thursday 18th May at 8:00 p.m. in the Minor Hall and view the work planned for the coming months.
