New Admissions Open Night – The school will be open for all prospective pupils and parents on Thursday 7th December from 6:00 -7:00 p.m. Come along and meet the pupils and staff and see what Broadbridge Primary School can offer you. If this date is not suitable, please contact the school office and we will accommodate you at a later date. Please spread the word to family, friends and neighbours. Thank you.

Strike action by Teachers’ Unions Wednesday 29th November –You may have seen coverage of the forthcoming unions’ strike action in the news, we want to inform you about the impact this is likely to have at our school. When a strike takes place, those taking strike action stop work and withdraw their labour. Members involved in the action will, therefore, not undertake any duties on the strike day. A risk assessment to determine whether it is possible to operate the school safely during the strike has been conducted which considers the impact that the action will have on the health and safety of pupils, staff and visitors, and whether the school can run a full or amended curriculum. The school will close for pupils on Wednesday 29th November from 8:00 – 11:45 a.m. Children may enter the Master’s Hall from 11:45 a.m. onwards. The school day will begin at 12:00 Noon. Clearly this is a difficult situation, which will cause some disruption. I would ask you, however, to be understanding. A strike by unions is very unusual. Taking strike action is not something that any member would undertake lightly. Those on strike will have thought long and hard about their decision and will also lose pay for the period that they are on strike. The school will run as normal from Thursday 30th November. Please note all canteen users must be booked in early, preferably before the end of the school day on Tuesday 28th November as only the children who have booked a dinner will be able to avail of one on the Wednesday.

Signatures required – Parents please check and sign the following :

  • Homework needs to be checked and signed on a daily basis.
  • Reading records need signed once their reading has been listened to nightly.
  • Weekly tests (Spellings and/or Numeracy) need checked and signed.

Teachers have been asked to place an X requesting a signature if the child’s book is not signed. This is required to keep you as a parent informed and involved in the education of your child. Thank you.

Do This in Memory – The Primary 4 children from the parish schools will begin their sacramental preparation this weekend, through the ‘Do This in Memory’ programme. Together with their families, they will attend mass, hear special readings and with our Parish Priests, learn all about the importance of the Eucharist as part of their sacramental preparation. Children can attend either Vigil Mass 5:00 p.m. or 6:30 p.m.

‘Broadbridge does the Santa walk.’ We are proud to support the Daily Mile, which aims to improve the physical, social, emotional and mental health and wellbeing of our children.  This year the Daily Mile is holding the walk on Friday 1st December.  We are doing this during the school day so everyone can join in.  Grab your Santa hats/headbands and get in the festive spirit!

Seany Lynn SCPP – Congratulations to Seany Lynn who has won the prestigious School Crossing Patrol Person of the year in Northern Ireland,  Road Safety Award. There is no -one more deserved of an award (Although William Mc Laughlin may disagree!!!) for the great work he does every morning and afternoon, keeping all our walkers, cyclists and scooters safe on their journey to and from school.

Well done Seany!

School Day – Please ensure that your child is in school for the 9:00 a.m. bell. Unfortunately, class teachers are not available to talk to parents at this time as our day has started and the pupils are ready to follow their daily class routine. For safeguarding purposes, the gates around the school are locked at this time. Therefore, parents need to vacate the school grounds immediately. If you are running late, your child must enter through the main office and be signed in by the office staff for our records. If your child is absent due to illness, a phone call or email to the school office should be placed before 9:15 a.m.

Do This in Memory – The Primary 4 children from the Parish Schools will begin their Sacramental Preparation next weekend, through the ‘Do This in Memory’ Programme.

ParentPay – reminders for outstanding activities, clubs and meals for the period September-November 2023 were sent out yesterday, please check school bags for these notes.  Additionally, reminders have also been sent out for outstanding items from the last school year September 2022-June 2023.  We would appreciate if those who have received these reminders could make any payments listed as soon as possible so that activities can be archived from the system, particularly those from last year.  Over 120 letters were sent out yesterday and the administrative burden of this process is increasing month by month.  To help alleviate this we would ask that payments for all school clubs/facilities/extra-curricular activities be paid for in advance, hopefully leading to bills only needing to be sent out occasionally.  If you need any help using or paying for items on the ParentPay system, are having difficulty meeting any payment, or need any clarification about any bill item you have been notified of, please contact the school office and we will help you in any way we can. Thank you.

Road Safety Week – Next week is Road Safety Week. To mark the occasion, we invite pupils to walk to school on Wednesday 22nd November wearing brightly coloured clothes as we ‘Ditch the dark!’ Teachers and assistants will meet the children at Ashburn Image and the Play Park at 8:30 a.m. to walk to school together.

Safe Travel Plan – Thanks to all the parents and pupils who continue to use the designated drop off points in the mornings. The flow of traffic in and from the school has been gradually improving because of this. With parental involvement, local councillors and outside agencies the school is currently in the process of developing a ‘Safe Travel Plan’ to make the route that our children take to school a safe route, and by doing so encourage more pupils and parents to walk, scoot and cycle to and from school on a daily basis.

Walking to and from School – We are delighted with the number of children that are walking to and from school on a daily basis.  As the mornings and evenings are getting darker, children must wear a high viz vest coming and going from school.  If you do not have one tell your class teacher and we will gladly supply you with one.

Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) Awareness Day – Friday 20th October 2023 is (DLD) Awareness Day.  DLD is a diagnosis given to someone who has difficulty talking and/or understanding language.  1 in 14 people have DLD, an invisible, lifelong disability.  People with DLD will often have difficulty understanding words, following instructions, or answering questions.  They may struggle to find the right words to express themselves, say words in the right order, engage in conversation or tell a story.  Broadbridge Primary School is helping raise awareness of DLD so people know about, understand and support this common yet hidden condition #DLDDay.

Please click HERE to see Information Leaflet 1.

Please click HERE to see Information Leaflet 2.

Google Classroom – All children P1-P7 have been issued with Google Classroom Login details.  Please login using these details.  Please do not use personal email accounts as these will be removed. Teachers will be using this platform to keep you up to date with what your child is doing in school.

Primary 1 Folders – Primary 1 pupils must bring their folder in daily. Information for pupils and parents will always be sent home in these folders.

Parent/Teacher Meeting P2-P6 – Parent/Teacher meetings will take place from Monday 23rd -Wednesday 25th October.  This year the meetings will take place in school unless you have been told otherwise.  The slots for booking appointments will open Monday on Google Classroom.  All parents attending the meetings please enter through the main reception entrance, directions to your child’s class will be clearly displayed. Please note the time allocated is 10 minutes per child and must be strictly adhered to by all. Primary 1 parent Teacher meetings will be in January.

Attendance and arrival at School – Parents will be contacted at the end of October if their child’s attendance falls below 85%.  We are aware that there are many factors contributing to a child being absent from school, therefore it is very important that the school is informed if a child is absent and the reasoning behind it so that it may be coded correctly for Child Protection purposes.  Children arriving after the 9:00 a.m. bell in the morning must access the school through the main office, as school has already started, this is to ensure minimal disruption to the other children, they must also be recorded as late on the system.

Child Protection and Safeguarding- This is always a priority in our school. Please see the attached flowchart for further information. This reminds parents  who they contact within the school if they have any concerns about their child or any other child’s safety.
