The guidance has changed; you DO NOT keep your child off school (Unless your child has tested positive!), an updated information email will be sent out if there is a positive case in your child’s class.

Auditions – The auditions for the school show ‘The Wizard of Oz’ will take place on Monday 14th March until 4:00 p.m. for Primary 7 pupils and Tuesday 15th March until 4:00 p.m. for Primary 6 pupils.

World Book Day – Thanks to all children and staff who participated in World Book Day making it such a successful day.  Once again a roaring success enjoyed by all.

ParentPay – Bills for outstanding activities, clubs and meals from September 2021 up to February 2022 were sent out last Thursday, please check school bags for these notes.  We would appreciate it if those who have received these bills could make any payments listed as soon as possible so that activities can be archived from the system.  The number of bills needing to be sent out is increasing month and month and at present there are a significant number of afterschool activities that can not be archived because of outstanding payments, making it very difficult for parents to navigate the system.  We would like to reiterate that payment for all school clubs/facilities/activities should be paid for in advance, with bills only needing to be sent out occasionally.  If you need any help using or paying for items on the ParentPay system, are having difficulty meeting any payment, or need any clarification about any bill item you have been notified of, please contact the school office and we will help you in any way we can.  If payments are not made by Friday 25th March, we will make direct contact with you to ensure you are in receipt of our letters.  We appreciate your understanding with this matter.

Big Walk and Wheel!!! – Get ready for the Big Walk and Wheel which will run from Monday 21st March to Friday 1st April.  Plenty of notice to get the flat tyres fixed, chains oiled and ready to pedal!!!!  We would encourage as many families as possible to walk or wheel to school during this period.  This is a great opportunity to get fit and healthy whilst having a positive impact on the children’s health and well-being as well as the environment.  Prizes will be awarded, within each Key Stage, for the pupil with the most journeys.  Walkers may meet at the Play Park and Ashburn Image at 8:30 a.m.  The walking train will be leaving on time every day!

Confirmation Ceremony – Thanks to all who participated in the Confirmation Ceremony this year, Fr. Mc Dermott, Fr. Canny, Brian Mc Closkey, Gerry and Bernie Cunningham. Our thanks also to all the Teachers, Classroom assistants, choir children and pupils in the school who all played their part in making it a wonderful day.

Label Clothing – We have an ever increasing number of items of clothing gathering in the school lost property section as the clothing is not labelled.  Please label all clothing clearly so that we may return the items to the rightful owners!

Loughs Agency – Thanks to the Loughs Agency who visited this week making our Primary 6 pupils ‘Salmon Ambassadors’.  They spoke to the children about the important work they do to protect the salmon and trout in our rivers.  They have been left with the task of taking care of trout eggs for the next few weeks which they will then release into our rivers.

A Message from Eglinton Community Group regarding Eglinton’s New Play Park

Recently there have been a lot of reports of people in the new play park despite it not being open to the public as yet.  Some damage has been caused to the new equipment and surfaces etc., this is delaying the completion date and handover of the park for all to use.

While the work is still ongoing, please do not enter the park, it will be a great facility, which will be enjoyed by all once the work has been fully completed.  Thank you.

We wish every grace and blessing on our P7 pupils here in Broadridge, and throughout the parish, as they make final preparations to recieve the Sacrament of Corfirmation tomorrow in the Church of Our Lady, Star of the Sea, Faughanvale.

Choir – The choir will be singing at the Confirmation ceremony on Saturday 5th March.  The ceremony is due to start at 11:00 am, choir members are asked to arrive by 10.45 am and to enter and exit by the ramp entrance.  It is expected that choir pupils will be ready to be picked up between 11.45 am and 12 noon.

Parking

School Grounds – Parking on school grounds is strictly for staff only, the only exception to this is for parents with infants/small children, all other parents must park outside the school gates.  We would ask that parents park sensibly during busy times and ensure that school access routes are not blocked, particularly in light of the current ongoing works.  Perhaps as the weather improves you could consider having your child walk/cycle/scoot to school to help alleviate congestion.

Across the Blue Bridge – We continue to advise parents and guardians to please be mindful of residents and business owners when parking across the Blue Bridge for pick up and drop off.  There are some parents parking on the main road, we would strongly advise against this.  We have contacted road service in relation to the ongoing parking problems at the school.

School Photographer – The school photographer will be in school on Monday 7th March to take photographs of pupils in Year 2-Year 7.  Photographs of P7 children in their Confirmation photographs will be taken, children must bring in their uniform to change into afterwards.

Party Invitations to School – Please do not send party invitations into school to be given out to pupils.  The staff have decided as a whole that this practice will no longer be facilitated in school as the exclusion of children is causing upset to those not being invited.  We would appreciate your support with this matter.

Returning to School After Sickness – If your child goes home with a vomiting and diarrhoea bug please make sure that they are fully recovered before they return to school.

Spare Change of Clothing – Primary 1 and Primary 2 pupils all require a change of clothing (trousers,          t-shirt, underwear and socks) to be kept in school at all times.  Please place these items in a plastic bag with your child’s name to be left on their coat hook if you have not already done so.  If your child has needed to use this change, please make sure that a new set is sent in as accidents happen, particularly with our younger pupils.  If your child has needed to borrow items from school to facilitate a change, please return these to school as soon as possible.

Congratulations to the victorious Man City team, who despite losing their unbeaten record to a rejuvinated Arsenal team, won the league by a massive ten points over nearsest challengers Spurs. Man Utd finished the season strongly but lost out on runners-up spot to Spurs on goal difference.

Congratulations to all the boys and girls on five weeks of wonderful football and drama.

Children’s Mental Health Week – 7th-13th February

Walking, wheeling or cycling to school has a significant positive impact on children’s mental health.  Children who travel actively to school have increased self-esteem and confidence.  To help mark Children’s Mental Health Week next week from the 7th-13th February, check out the active-travel theme that you can carry out with your child on your journey to school.

People of all ages can benefit from mindfulness.  It is a simple exercise of focusing thoughts and feelings you are experiencing in the present moment.  It can help parents and caregivers by promoting happiness and relieving stress.  Children can benefit by forming healthy habits when dealing with big emotions.

Man City continued their relentless march towards the title with two further victories this afternoon against nearest rivals Spurs and Man. Utd.

A Ryan Deery hat-trick and another from Oisin Collins was enough to see off Spurs who replied through captain Finn Cooper. Dara Deery then weighed in with a brace against Man Utd who pulled one back through Alex Lyle but a Dairmuid Watson goal a few minutes from time secured another 3 points in a 3-1 victory.

After their defeat to leaders Man City, Spurs fell further behind in the chase for the title when they were held to a scoreless draw against Chelsea who had earlier fallen to a 3-2 defeat against Liverpool. A Cathal McKeegen double and a brilliant finish from Adam Peoples proved too much, despite Miceal McBride’s double for Chelsea.

Liverpool then claimed another valuable point in their second match of the day against Arsenal. Cathal McKeegan’s opener for Liverpool was cancelled out by a stunning effort from Cameron Greg Logue.

It was a mixed day for Man. Utd who, despite losing to Man City, claimed three precious points against Arsenal in a 4-1 victory with Liam Weatherall, Conor Martin (2) and Alex Lyle on the scoresheet. Cameron Gregg Logue was again on the scoresheet for Arsenal.

A couple of victories next Friday will secure the title for the light blues of Man. City but it’s still all to play for in the hunt for second place.

Week 3 Results

COVID in School – If your child displays symptoms of COVID, keep them at home and do a Lateral Flow test.  If your child is tested for COVID, please forward a copy of the result of the PCR/Lateral Flow test to the school office.  If a positive result is returned, please contact the school office for further guidance.  If a child tests positive in any class, an email will be sent out to the parents/guardians of pupils in that class.

The guidance has changed; you DO NOT keep your child off school (Unless your child has tested positive!), an updated information email will be sent out if there is a positive case in your child’s class.

If you know of any family that have a child due to start Primary 1 in September 2022, please pass on this information.

Healthy Break and Healthy Lunchbox – Parents/Pupils are reminded that the Healthy Break in the morning is a fruit break only, no biscuits, bars or other snacks.  Lunchboxes should contain healthy foodstuff; no fizzy drinks are allowed only water in water bottles!  Please note energy drinks should not be sent to school under any circumstances.

Google Classroom – Please log into Google Classroom frequently to check on updated content and make sure your notifications are turned on.  Primary 3 teachers will be setting a shape assignment this week, for completing next week, please login to access this work.  Primary 6/7 Open Nights are on their Google Classroom as some schools are going virtual this year.

SnapChat – We have had another incident in school involving snapchat.  The official guidance is clear; no child should have an account until they are at least 13 years of age!  For the safety of your child and their classmates we would ask that parents follow this guidance. We have asked that pupils do not set up group chats in any forum, WhatsApp, SnapChat, Messenger to name but a few. From past experiences it leads to bullying and the sharing of inappropriate material. Mobile phones if needed to be brought to school in exceptional circumstances must always be handed in to the class teacher.

School Show!!!!! – Delighted to announce that plans are under way to present our school show “ The Wizard of OZ” in May 2022. This is the first school show in four years! Children will be informed of audition times and show arrangements in the coming weeks. The staff are just buzzing with excitementJ

School Uniform – Children are reminded that they can wear an extra layer of clothing under their uniform to school if they wish, during the winter months as windows will remain open at certain times of the day.
